WA Disabled Sports Association (WADSA) is proud to announce the launch of Active Futures, an exciting new leadership and wellbeing initiative funded through the Strong and Resilient Communities (SARC) – Inclusive Communities Grant.
Active Futures is designed to empower people with intellectual, psychosocial and autism spectrum disabilities who live in the City of Gosnells.
At its heart, Active Futures uses adaptive sport, recreation, and leadership development to build confidence, resilience, and meaningful social connections. The program is about more than participation, it’s about creating pathways to leadership, advocacy, and active community involvement.
Our Goals
Active Futures will:
- Build leadership and advocacy skills for people with disability
- Improve physical and mental wellbeing through inclusive, engaging activities
- Increase volunteering, social engagement, and community participation
- Strengthen partnerships between WADSA, disability service providers, and local councils
All activities and workshops are delivered free of charge, ensuring accessibility for all participants.
What’s Included?
- Inclusive Sport and Recreation
A diverse range of community based activities, including:
Archery, Boccia, Mini Golf, Football, Cricket, Kayaking, Stand-Up Paddle boarding, and Multisport programs.
- Volunteering Pathways
Opportunities to volunteer with WADSA and WADSA Members at events such as State Swimming Competitions and weekly Boccia training programs — building communication skills, teamwork, responsibility, and life skills.
- Leadership Workshops
Interactive, fun, and practical workshops focused on building confidence, advocacy skills and empowerment.
- Celebration and Recognition
Graduation and celebration events to acknowledge participant achievements and milestones.
“Active Futures is about unlocking potential. We see firsthand how inclusive sport builds confidence, friendships, and leadership skills. This project creates real pathways for people with disability to step into their community as leaders, volunteers, and role models.”
