All Abilities Recreation is a fun, engaging and inclusive sport and recreation program that has been exploring new locations north of the river. Term 1 of 2025 we saw some regular faces come back for another term, and 3 brand new participants who fit in with our crew seamlessly.

All Abilities Recreation runs year round, divided into four fun filled terms. While we’re usually based at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre in Mirrabooka, our water based adventures take us to Hillarys Boat Harbour, where we bring along our equipment and soak up the sun.

This program is a fantastic way for participants to stay active and improve their fitness in an inclusive, supportive environment. We’ve witnessed the positive physical impact firsthand. For example, Poppy, who joined us last year, shared how staying fit has become a key priority for her. Throughout the term, she’s told us how much the activities are helping her reach her fitness goals—and how much she’s enjoying discovering new and fun ways to stay active.

In addition to improved fitness, some of the many benefits of joining All Abilities Recreation include:

  • Mental and emotional well-being
  • Building social skills and connections
  • Forming and maintaining friendships
  • Cognitive and skill development

“AAR has really helped with my fitness, I love trying all the activities.”

Poppy Merdi – AAR Participants

Term 1 is typically February to April, meaning we get lots of sunshine and warm weather, so we get to use our kayaks and stand-up paddle boards down at Hillarys. We love being able to incorporate water awareness and safety skills into this program as we know how valuable these skills are for people living in Australia. Here are all the activities we got up to this term:

  • Stand up paddle boarding
  • Blow darts
  • Cooking
  • Kayaking
  • Bowling
  • Team building skills
  • Pickleball
  • Beach games
