All Abilities Recreation program is designed to provide adaptive, inclusive, and accessible opportunities for individuals living with a disability to participate in sport and recreation. Term 4 involved a variety of sessions inside and in the water with warmer weather coming in.
All Abilities Recreation focuses on creating a safe and engaging environment where people living with a disability can participate in a range of activities. Term 4 included the following:
- Archery
- Cooking
- Tee Ball
- Kayaking
- Stand up paddle boarding
- Badminton
- Group fitness session with a qualified personal trainer
- Bowling
In Term 4 we were able to try a brand new activity and venue. Rock climbing at Urban Jungle and Summit Malaga. Both venues were inclusive and welcomed us in with enthusiasm, patience and smiles. JR, Ash and Graeme were climbing for the full 2 hours, others were feeling accomplished by simply putting on a harness and feeling the climbing wall. We were even able to get Russ who uses a wheelchair up the wall, amazing! There were many happy people leaving these sessions, some of our participants wanting to come back and try it on their own or with their families.
All Abilities Recreation aims to help people achieve their NDIS plan goals. Some of the main outcomes from this program include:
- Physical health and fitness
- Mental and emotional wellbeing
- Building social skills and connections
- Forming and maintaining friendships
- Cognitive and skill development
We love receiving feedback from the families in the days after an activity. This is some feedback we received from Russell’s sister after our rock-climbing session:
“I have seen some photos of yesterday’s rock climbing and was thrilled to see Russell managed to participate and was hanging on the wall.”
