Play On held a Junior Xperience in July 2024, hosting a group of enthusiastic Juniors for 4 days of sports, friendship and fun. From AFL to rock climbing, these young sports people tried it all with support from the WADSA team! Play On Junior Xperiences are specifically designed for young people with disabilities, aged 9-17.
For many of our participants, this was their first time staying away from home, with some being as young as 9 years old. Each of these youngsters had a blast getting involved, not only in the sports, but also making their own pizzas, building independent skills and meeting new friends away from home. The beautiful venue at Woodman’s Point was the perfect home base for all things sports and treated us to a lovely sunset walk on the beach on night one.
With 4 days on camp, we jammed as much fun and excitement as we could into every hour, including:
- Brushing up on our AFL skills in a session run by WA All Abilities Football Association, Supported by West Coast Eagles Community Department
- Swinging for the fences with Baseball WA
- Testing our confidence with indoor rock climbing
- Passing, dodging and tackling (the tackle bags) with Rugby WA
- Honing our soccer skills with Football Futures
- Testing our accuracy with Archery and Tenpin Bowling
Plus, plenty of card games, spotlight, chasey and making friends!
“We are grateful Hendrick had a good first experience on a camp, the first ever he has been to. Especially being his first ever trip away from home without parents.”
Alana, Hendrick’s Mum
