WADSA was proud to partner with Rowing WA to deliver two Disability Inclusion Workshops as part of their ongoing Club Development Series. The sessions brought together coaches, club representatives and community members for an engaging and collaborative look at how rowing can continue growing as an inclusive and welcoming sport for all.

The workshop created a supportive space for shared ideas, open discussion and collective learning. Participants explored the foundations of inclusion, key terminology, and the common barriers people with disability face when accessing sport. Attendees shared their own experiences with planning and delivering inclusive rowing activities and held group discussions about the unique challenges and opportunities within their sport.

“Having spent time in the disability space, it was good to hear input from WADSA and others in the room on how they view the capacity of rowing to deliver disability programs. I loved the way that the videos included in the workshop captured the feelings and opinions of people with disabilities who are directly affected by the lack of inclusive programs”

A highlight of the session was the interactive communication challenge, designed to demonstrate the importance of clear, adaptable and person-centred communication- especially when working with people who have visual impairments.  Laughter, teamwork and problem-solving filled the room as participants experienced firsthand how small adjustments can make a significant difference when working with people with disabilities.

WADSA thanks Rowing WA for their commitment to building inclusive pathways and for inviting us to be part of their development series. Together, we’re supporting clubs to grow participation, remove barriers, and champion environments where every athlete can thrive.
